Soon after, the English Kingdom (also AI controlled) immediately offered to surrender to Spain by ceding several of its Catholic Irish provinces to Spain. The second invasion resulted in the Spanish armies temporarily capturing London and looting the city. Once the fleets were completed, Spanish Kingdom again attempted to land a huge army in coastal England and Ireland. What did the Spanish AI do? It immediately used my money to rebuild another HUGE ARMADA in the next turn.
But before the AI Spanish Kingdom could give up, I had my Austrian Empire send a HUGE GIFT of money to the Spanish Kingdom (Spain was my soso-ally) while they were still at war with England. surrender because it would have been futile and wasteful and very expensive to continue. At that point, the AI may have done the reasonable thing. I watched the invasion, and saw that the Spanish fleet was completely obliterated on their first invasion attempt at coastal England. The English fleet and the English defense armies had much better technology and morale and were ready to defend. This is similar to how it happened in history. At some point in the mid-16th century, the huge Kingdom of Spain (played by the AI) launched a massive armada to invade Protestant England.
The player certainly has TONS of choices to make, and even little choices can alter the future history of the game (for example, it is possible for the Byzantine Empire to have defeated the early Seljuk/Ottoman Turks so that the Ottoman Empire never established a grand empire in Constantinople/Istanbul.)įor example, I once played a game as the Austrian Empire. This does not mean the games play exactly like a history book. Hundreds (thousands) of little events will "guide" the gameplay towards a generally historical outcome.
Europa Universalis (from the original to the current version 4) is far more "historical".
